The Shawka Dam Mountain Trail involves steep climbing on rocky and uneven terrain. The trail is almost completely exposed to the sun, with very little shade, as it ascends a series of hills and ridges. The path is marked by cairns and painted flags.
The reward is the spectacular, wide-open views of the surrounding Hajar mountain range. The trail starts and ends at the Shawka Dam, a modern dam that creates a reservoir, which can be a beautiful sight when filled with water.
